One of the aspects of Urban Sketching is the constant interaction with the environment where you stand sketching. We as sketchers are privileged to be observers and then story tellers – weaving tales with our pens and colours and brushes. H Siddaiah road – we decided was a story that had to be told, is full of such tales – an area of Bangalore that is bursting with people and mechanic shop. We gave it our best shot, although we don’t think we’ve managed to cover all aspects of capturing this street to paper.
A Saturday Morning is a slow morning for business, in this part of the town, we managed to have a bit of an audience watching us, wondering what a group of people like us were upto. It’s always interesting to interact with the subjects you sketch, you don’t quite know what to expect from them – these shop owners couldn’t believe we gathered here out of free will, to spend our saturdays drawing and sketching and painting – they were amused to know that we do this every week, and then obliged to help us take our group photo at the end of the meet.
Our morning meet, extended into a lunch date at the Courtyard Cafe – which just meant a whole lot of sketches, discussion, sharing of sketches and food – there is no better combination than that.

We did have that moment again, when we asked “What do we draw”, how best to represent this area?” to which our fellow sketcher Hemant answered : Draw Everything
